Competing at the Celle Ligure International Meeting in Italy, the 14 year old Lamicah Adamson has made South Africa proud by taking her first ever, international gold medal.
Running in the 80 meter, under 15 sprint, Lamicah bolted ahead by a wide margin with a time of 10.11 seconds.
The Celle Ligure, which is Lamicah’s first international race, is a prestigious international competition which brings together the best youth and senior athletes.
The race is in its 37th year and brings together athletes from 38 countries, including South Africa.
Lamicah is one of 7 young South African athletes that left for Europe on the 12th of July, to tour through Italy and France, as part of a developmental programme to introduce the athletes to not only international competition, but new cultures and traditions.
The tour, which is a collaboration between Western Cape Schools Athletics and World Wide Scholarships, is described as being essential in developing and preparing these youngsters to become global athletes.
Lamicah and her teammates will be returning to South Africa on the 24th of July.
