When Dominique and Lance Bouwers met at a bus station in their hometown of Hanover Park, both were on their way to the University of the Western Cape. Little did they know that, not only would they fall in love and get married, but 13 years later, they would also be climbing the same stage on the same day to receive their Masters degrees.
When they met in 2012, Lance was completing the first year of his four year degree in Education while Dominique worked at the School of Natural Medicine. It was in 2016 that Lance graduated ‘Cum Laude’, the very same year the couple got married. The following year, Dominique decided that it was time to match her experience with a University qualification.
In 2017, she registered for an Advanced Diploma in Management; graduating in 2019 and then in 2021, she registered for Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration, graduating in 2023.
It was in 2022 that Lance registered for his Masters degree and in 2023 that Dominique registered for hers. On the 13th of April, Dominique graduated with her Masters in Information Systems, while Lance graduated with his Masters in Sport for Development.
Currently, Lance works as a teacher whereas Dominique is a Faculty Officer at the University at the Western Cape, an Associate Lecturer at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (where she teaches Python Programming in Tourism Analytics) and a Project Course Coordinator and Associate Lecturer at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences.
