AS level mathematics is a highly advanced subject that includes pure mathematics and applied statistics. It is generally considered to be the most difficult mathematics subject that a learner could be tested on. It is also the subject in which Mia Ivan scored a perfect 100%.
This week it was announced that Mia had received the ‘Top in the World’ award for AS Level Mathematics and AS Level Accounting. She also achieved first place in South Africa for Best Across Four AS Level subjects.
The ‘Top in the World’ awards is given to learners who write and excel in the prestigious Cambridge Exams. The exams itself is run by the UK based University of Cambridge and because it is internationally recognised for its prestige, it opens up international opportunities for those that write it.
The exam itself was written in November of 2025, when Mia was still in Matric and busy with her final exams. This is, however, not her first Cambridge accolade.
She also wrote the Cambridge Exams while in grade 11 where she was awarded the ‘Top in South Africa’ for her performance in IGCSE Accounting exams. She scored an average of 95.7% for all her subjects.
Mia is currently studying towards a degree in Chemical Engineering at Stellenbosch University.
