Most of us have never heard of Pella, a dusty little town in the Namakwa District, with its gravel roads and 2400 residents. Darrel Botes, however, is about to change that.
Not only did the 17 year old Darrel win the under 19, 100 meter sprint at the 2026 Autumn Athletics National School Sport Championship but he dominated.
The Pella born and bred speedster led with a commanding time of 10.47 seconds as well as dominating in the heats, where he ran a personal best of 10.42 seconds.
He also scored a silver in the under 19, 200m, with a time of 20.84 seconds.
As a motivation, he tells himself that he is the best no matter where he stands and that he just has to believe in the power of God.
