The young Cameron Joseph might only be in his first year of community service, but his CV looks like he has been in the profession for decades. To start with, he completed his medical degree in 2022 from the University of Cape Town, then in 2023, he completed a Masters in Biomedical Ethics from Stellenbosch University. Not only did he complete his two degrees, but he did so with a first class distinction for his medical degree and a cum laude for his masters. This basically means that he is a student that scored A’s in his exams.
And also in 2023, he started with his compulsory two year internship in Bloemfontein eventually leading up to this year, where he has to complete his 1 year community service in Kimberley. But this is only the tip of an already impressive CV.
His focus will be in Pediatrics, which is a doctor that focuses on helping kids. For this reason, he has licences and certificates in pediatrics from the The Colleges of Medicine of South Africa, Pediatric Advanced Life Support certificate from the American Heart Association and he completed a Mother-Baby Friendly Initiative certificate from the Department of Health.
He was a class representative for the subjects on Rheumatology and Paediatric Medicine, raised funds for the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, provided free medical services to the communities of Imizamo Yethu, Hangeberg and Thambo Village, was the Deputy volunteered as the Deputy Head of Paediatrics and then the Head of the International Division for the SHAWCO non-profit and was the Junior Ambassador Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. He is also Freelance writer for the publishers Mail & Guardian, Merion West and Culturico.
In addition, he received the Dale Carnegie Excellence Award (2015), was a finalist in the Adcock Ingram/News24 Next Generation of Brave Awards (2020), received the UCT Plus Silver Award for leadership (2020), won the UCT SRC Africa Day Essay Competition in the category of Health (2021), won the Best Student Presentation award at the Rural Health Conference(2022), was a Mail & Guardian Top 200 Young South Africans (2021) and is a GoldenKey South Africa Member.
In his free time, the overachiever likes to spend time with his family and is especially grateful to his parents, Andre and Aniki, for their support and guidance, as well as his brother, Adrian, for always being by his side.
