Gqeberha’s Luke Boswell’s dream is to build robots. He might be one step closer to achieving that dream when he won both a gold medal and a bursary at Eskom’s 2025 Expo for Young Scientists.
The Expo is a science fair, where high school learners from across the county and the world present their science projects and compete for prizes.
This year, Luke won a gold medal in the Energy Category for his project, “Viability of blade pitch in high turbulence environments”. In short, it is an energy management system designed for home energy reduction
In addition to winning gold, the Grade 11 learner received a scholarship for first year tuition at Rhodes University, the FFS Refiners Award Tech Bundle for Innovative Project, an Eskom high end laptop, a R10 000 cash prize, a WITS University; Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment Bursary valued at R40 000, and a Special Award for Best Energy Project.
