Medical Doctor, Sabeeha Moosa, Graduates with Specialist Degree, Cum Laude

To get to where she is today, Sabeeha Moosa had to do a 6 year medical degree,  a 2 year internship, 1 year of community service, and 4 years of specialist training and studies. At the end of last year, she finally completed her training, graduated with a Masters in Paediatrics and did so Cum Laude.

Sabeeha completed her Masters Degree in Paediatrics from Stellenbosch University and was accredited as a Specialist Pediatric Surgeon by the College of Medicine of South Africa. Pediatrics is the area of medicine that deals with the healthcare of children and Sabeeha is now accredited to perform surgery and advise on the specific medical needs of kids.

In addition to passing Cum Laude, she also received the Robert McDonald Gold Medal, a medal awarded by College of Medicine for being the most outstanding student in pediatrics. She also received a certificate in Media and Management from Harvard Medical School and not only did she complete an MBA in Healthcare Management from Mancosa but she did so, once again, Cum Laude.

Now, life does not come without its challenges, and for Sabeeha, that challenge is Familial Hemiplegic Migraine. It is a hereditary genetic condition that is passed on from grandparent or parent to child and results in severe, debilitating migraines, lasting hours or days. It is even more punishing when your job consists of you having to be on-call 24/7, in addition to having to study. Sabeeha is however driven and will not let her condition control her life or stand in her way of achieving her goals.

Sabeeha currently works as Medical Manager at Groote Schuur hospital.

Other Interesting Facts:

  • The College of Medicine of South Africa is the examining body for the medical field and provides doctors with accreditation in their areas of specialising. In this case, Sabeeha will specialise in Pediatrics.
  • For those that don’t know, Cum Laude means that Sabeeha passed with 75% or more and is essentially an A student.
