Meet Cheree Dyers, CEO of a R158 Billion Company

Cheree Dyers’ first job was as a teller working at a bank, earning R20 an hour. She had just started studying and wanted to help pay off the loan that her dad had taken out for her studies. Fast forward 24 years later, and she is the CEO of a company that manages more than R158 billion in assets. Now, we don’t know how much she earns today, but given that she runs a R158 billion company, it most certainly isn’t R20 an hour.

Cheree is the CEO of Prescient Investment Management, a role she had occupied since 2018. The company invests the money of its clients which ranges from small investors with a few thousand to large investors with a few 100s of millions of rands.

She joined Prescient Investment Management in 2005 as Head of Finance and Risk and as a member of the Board before moving on to Prescient Securities as an Executive Director, Head of Equities and CEO. It was in 2018 that she went back to Prescient Investment Management to become its CEO.

Cheree is a qualified chartered accountant, having obtained a business degree and a post graduate diploma in accounting, both from the University of Cape Town. She is also a chartered financial analyst, a member of the South African institute of stockbrokers, a board member of the prescient foundation, a member of the Investments Board Committee of Association of Savings and Investments South Africa, serves as the Chairperson of the Gen Re Board of Directors and she is a board member of PBT Limited.

Now, to get to where she is, she had to sacrifice time spent with her family, and this is why she is so grateful for her husband. He kept everything going in the home, especially when she had to attend classes during the week and be at the office on Saturday and Sunday. Her two daughters are testament to their parenting success, with the eldest studying to become a medical doctor and the youngest pursuing a science degree in human anatomy.
